Thursday, May 31-Randolph 6, Kimball 2: Kimball fell to Randolph, 6-2, in the Section 4A softball championship round at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul. The Cubs committed seven errors in the loss to the No. 2-seeded Rockets in the first game of the final series. Katie Merchant pitched 6 innings, struck-out 8, walked 3, surrendered 6 hits, and plunked 2 batters. All of Randolph’s six runs were unearned. The loss created another Cubs–Rockets matchup Friday for a winner-take-all championship game. Friday, June 1 Randolph 5, Kimball 4. There was plenty of excitement and angst in the eighth inning championship game for the Section 4A title. Kimball’s Mackenzie Leither blasted a solo shot to tie things at 2-2 in the fifth inning. The Cubs once again found themselves trailing, and once again managed to tie the game at 4-4, behind a Katie Merchant two-run double in the seventh. However, it was an eighth-inning tag-play error that allowed Randolph to score the winning run and capture the Section 4A title.
