What’s happening at the Eden Valley Area Library?

March is not just about
St. Patrick’s Day or waiting for those daffodils to bloom. We have some interesting things going on at the library. Mark your calendars, so you can take advantage of what we have to offer.

Our annual board meeting will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the community center meeting room. It is followed by our regular board meeting at 1 p.m. We continue to search for community members to join our board. Please consider coming to either board meeting to see what we are all about.

Plan on joining us Friday, March 13, for Storytime Stars from 10-11 a.m. Since attendance is limited, please call (320) 453-4434 to let us know you’re coming. There will always be a variety of great stories, music, crafts, and snacks.

With all the talk about fake news, it is good to be informed. With that in mind, we are offering an Educational Forum on Politics. It will take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the library. The topics up for discussion will be posted on Facebook, so check it out. Being an educated voter is an important part of our democracy, and here is an opportunity to learn about the issues.

The EVAL Book Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the library following the Educational Forum on Politics. The group will be discussing “Educated,” a memoir by Tara Westover. This inspirational memoir is truly a tribute to the human spirit.

Our theme for the month is Nutrition. Remember, eating habits are passed on to your children and grandchildren. So, set a good example and check out our display for some great tips on eating right. There is something to be said about an apple a day.

National Voter Registration Day continues. Come into the library to register to vote either online or by USPS. Just ask a staff member for assistance. Anyone who will be 18 years of age by Nov. 3, 2020, can register. Remember to vote, it’s your right and responsibility.

We have decided to celebrate our favorite books recommended by our favorite readers in this and in upcoming columns. March starts off with Kathy DeForrest recommending “Breakthrough” by Michael Grumley. A wonderful science fiction read; it has plenty of action, a bit of romance, even dolphins. Sandy Millerbernd loved “One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow” by Olivia Hawker. This novel takes place on the 1876 Wyoming prairie and it deals with forgiveness and trust between two women. Sharon Simmons wants to share “Fountains of Silence” by Ruta Sepetys. This timely story takes place in 1957 Madrid, under the fascist dictatorship of General Francisco Franco. Stop in the library to check out our favorites display.

For information on any of the events listed, call (320) 453-4434, check out our Facebook page, or go to our website at eval22-org.
