Temps in the 80s, highest percentage of rain expected Friday

Mark Anthony Meteorologist

It was an enjoyable weekend for most of the area for the first day of summer on Saturday, and for Father’s Day on Sunday.

Some scattered showers and thunderstorms did impact the state over the weekend, but on Sunday the bulk of the thunderstorms stayed off to the south as a cold front pushed across the state. The majority of the heavy rain and stronger storms were near the I-90 corridor.

Despite the fact that some areas have seen adequate amounts of rain, other areas are definitely in need of a good soaker in portions of west central and central Minnesota.

Several weather disturbances will push across the region for the midweek and into the weekend. We could see some scattered or isolated showers and thunderstorms all the way into the weekend. Temperatures will be warmer over the weekend as we should climb back into the mid- to upper-80s.

Welcome to summer.

Weather history: On this date in 1972 records show that “frost developed across northeastern Minnesota.” For example, Tower dropped to 32 degrees F.

Weather facts: Did you know that an inversion is “an increase in temperature with height?” This is a departure from the usual decrease of temperatures with an increase of altitude.
