Mostly cloudy and cooler with chances of snow for our weekend

Mark Anthony Meteorologist

We had a couple of weak systems that moved out of North Dakota and moved across portions of Minnesota on Monday and again on Tuesday. This brought with it some spotty light snow to the state.

We will see some warm temperatures returning on Wednesday. Look for highs to reach the 30s and even some lower 40s for the midweek.

Don’t get too use to this as we will see a cold end to the week. Expect temperatures to tumble into the single digits for highs on Friday across much of the region. Overnight lows will drop below zero.

Some snow will be possible for Saturday and Sunday as another system is forecasted to push across the state. Highs will return to the teens and 20s over the weekend.

In case you are wondering, the 8 to 14 Day Outlook is calling for normal temperatures for the northern-half of Minnesota and below normal temperatures for the southern-half of the state. We should see near normal precipitation during the period.

Stay warm and enjoy the mild temperatures for Wednesday.

Weather history: On this date in 1917 historical records show that “16 inches of snow fell in the Twin Cities.” Other parts of Minnesota also saw some significant snow.

Weather facts: The Guiness World Records lists the largest snowflake to ever fall to be “15 inches wide.” The flake was reported to have fallen in January 1887 in Fort Keogh, Montana.
