House fire Thursday


At about 1 a.m. Thursday, June 24, the Meeker County -Sheriff’s Office received a report of a house fire in the 23800 block of 700th Avenue in Dassel Township. Dassel Fire Department, Litchfield Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance, and Meeker County Deputies responded to the scene.

Responding units found smoke and fire in the main floor of the home. Fire crews worked to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent further damage to the home. Mayo Ambulance assessed the occupants of the home for possible smoke inhalation, but did not transport any patients from the scene.

The home is owned by Amanda Darwin, 33, and Dustin Darwin, 39. Also in the home were their five juvenile children.

The fire was determined to have started in the laundry room, and may have been related to a clothes dryer. The main-floor laundry room and kitchen sustained significant fire and smoke damage which displaced the family. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the family members.
