Kimball beats St. Augusta Sunday

The Kimball Express hosted the St. Augusta Gussies Sunday afternoon, July 11. The Gussies scored first, in the top of the second, and the Express answered back with a run of their own, adding 4 more runs over the next three innings. The Gussies rallied in the seventh with 4 runs, but it wasn’t quite enough to catch up. The 4 runs scored by the Express in the bottom of the eighth sealed their victory at 11-7.

For the Express, Tommy Friesen hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, and a single in the fourth. Cade Marquardt hit a -triple and a single for 2 RBI. Scott Marquardt hit a pair of doubles for 3 RBI. Matt Friesen hit a double and a pair of singles. Brian Marquardt hit a pair of singles for 1 RBI. Austin Ruehle hit a double and a single for 1 RBI.

Andy Dingmann earned the win for the Express, pitching 2 2/3 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 1 while allowing 3 hits (and no runs). Zach Dingmann allowed 7 runs on 11 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2 in his 6 1/3 innings on the mound.

Tyler Bautch is tagged with the loss in his 2 innings pitching. He allowed the final 4 runs on 4 hits by the Express; he struck out 3 and walked 2. Travis Laudenbach started the game, pitching the first six innings. He struck out 4 and walked 2 while allowing 7 runs on 11 hits.

All of the Gussies hits were singles, with Nate Gwost at the top of the list with 3. Dusty Schulzetenberg, Aaron Fruth, and Jacoby Anderson hit a pair of singles each.

The Express next plays at the Cokato Kernels in a non-league game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 16. Their final CVL home game will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19, a make-up game from April 25. The first CVL North playoff game will be July 24, with the playoff schedule coming out later this month.
