At about 11 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Kandiyohi Sheriff’s Office in reference to a driving complaint on a vehicle headed to Meeker County on U.S. Highway 12. The information received included the possibility that the driver was under the influence.
Meeker County Deputies came across the vehicle on U.S. -Highway 12 in Grove City and observed it swerving within the lane and crossing the center line.
Meeker County Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, however the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued to travel east toward Litchfield. Meeker County Deputies and the -Litchfield Police Department deployed stop sticks near the intersection of U.S. -Highway 12 and MN Highway 22. The vehicle hit the stop sticks but continued to travel toward -Litchfield. Prior to reaching Litchfield, Meeker County Deputies attempted a PIT (pursuit intervention technique) maneuver causing the vehicle to spin the opposite direction, and the vehicle began to travel west on U.S. Highway 12 back toward Grove City. Meeker County Deputies used the PIT technique again causing the vehicle to go into the ditch and come to a rest off U.S. Highway 12 in the area of CSAH 31.
The driver was taken into custody and identified as David -Carlson, 62 of Spicer. Carlson was booked into the Meeker County Jail pending a formal court appearance on charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, and suspicion of driving while impaired.
