What’s happening at the Eden Valley Area Library?
We are wrapping up our Education Nation program in August. Although the temperatures have been hot, we’ve been having some cool sessions. It is all thanks to the generosity of Paynesville Lutheran Church and their Endowment Fund. With monies from their grant, we can offer great programs for the kids.
The first session of Education Nation for August features Nature and Art. We will have the kids creating masterpieces from nature’s bounty. Possibilities will include rock painting, chalk drawing, and seed art creations. It will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11.
August will be the month we teach our children about Minnesota birds. Children are natural explorers. Birding will connect them with a sense of place, and get them outside to explore our neighborhoods and towns. Stop in the library for a color sheet with instructions of Minnesota birds, and enter a chance to win a pair of children’s binoculars. Bring your color sheet back to the library to display in our window for the whole world to see.
August 25 will be the final Eden Valley Area Library session of our summer program Education Nation. We will have guests from the Minnesota Raptor Center. Established in 1974 the Raptor Center sees around 1,000 sick and injured raptors each year. A raptor is a meat-eating bird with at least three main characteristics which include keen eyesight, eight sharp talons, and a hooked beak. Join us for this extraordinary presentation of an eagle and other raptors at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Friederichs Park in Eden Valley.
If you’re bringing your little ones to Education Nation, make sure to stop in the library for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten packet. Joining this program is a fun way to give your little one a head start in learning.
Urge your children to come in for their Summer Bingo sheets. Thanks to Ginger Reineccius for the great ideas listed on the bingo sheets. Kindergarten through sixth-grade students can stop in the library to pick one up. They read the required books, complete the bingo tasks, bring in the completed card signed by a parent or guardian, and choose a prize from our prize bin. Walk by and check out our front window to see the completed bingo sheets.
The library is open from 2-5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In keeping with Minnesota and CDC guidance, we ask that all unvaccinated Minnesotans mask up to protect themselves and their neighbors. Questions? Contact the library by phone at (320) 453-4434, message us on Facebook, or check out our website at https://eval22-org.doodlekit.com/.
