The state of Minnesota did see some relief from the drought with some rain that fell late last week.
Sauk Centre picked up 2.23 inches of rain late Friday into early Saturday. Meanwhile, Elbow Lake reported 2.00 inches of rain. Other spots include: Brainerd 1.57 inches, Motley 1.57 inches, Garrison 1.33 inches, Litte Falls 1.19 inches, Alexandria 1.13 inches, Pequot Lakes .82 inches, Park Rapids .79 inches, and -Kimball .24 inches of rain.
As we all know, rainfall amounts can vary greatly even within the same community. One side of a town can experience more or less than another side of a community.
Some additional scattered showers and thunderstorms pushed across parts of Minnesota Monday into Monday night. Any additional rainfall that fell was certainly welcomed in those areas.
It is going to be hot for the midweek on Wednesday. Some spots could hit 100 degrees. Dew points are projected to reach into the upper 60s and low- to mid-70s. Some spotty showers and thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon heat. A weak cool front will also arrive Wednesday night into Thursday.
Expect slightly cooler temperatures along with less humid conditions by Thursday.
Stay cool on Wednesday and find some shade.
Weather history: On this date in 1910 records show that “giant hailstones fall in Todd and Wadena Counties.” One stone reportedly “weighed in at five pounds!”
Weather facts: Did you know that small hailstones typically fall at between 10 to 20 mph? For hailstones that are around 1.50 inches in diameter, it would fall at around 45 mph!
