Appreciating our Veterans
On Thursday morning Nov. 11, the Kimball American Legion family, along with Kimball Area High School, held a Veterans Day program at the high school.
The flags were advanced. A welcome by Kimball Mayor Karla Davis was given. A prayer by Pastor David Milz from St. John’s Lutheran Church was given. The Kimball American Legion Junior Auxiliary and the Kimball Sons of the American Legion led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. The Kimball Area High School band and choir played and sang the National Anthem. The Kimball Area High School band played America the Beautiful with everyone in assembly singing along. After that, the Kimball American Legion Auxiliary held the Flag Folding Ceremony. They then did the POW/MIA Table Setting. The assembly then got to hear from the guest speaker -Senator Jeff Howe. Senator Jeff Howe served 38 years in the military. He had a lot of interesting things to say. After Senator Howe spoke, the Kimball Area High School band played the Armed Forces on Parade. The Kimball American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion performed the Military Child’s Table. The assembly recognized all children in the assembly whose parent or parents are currently serving or have served in the past with a round of applause. A closing prayer was given by Pastor Milz and then Echo Taps was played. The Colors were retired and the assembly dismissed.
The Kimball American Legion family would like to thank everyone for attending the program. We thank Kimball Area High School, especially the Kimball Area High School band and choir; you added so much to the program. A thank you to Mayor Karla Davis and Pastor David Milz. A big thank you to Senator Jeff Howe for speaking to everyone. We thank veterans who were in attendance and also those who advanced and retired the flags. A big “thank you” to the custodians for setting up and taking down the gym. A big “thank you” to all of the Auxiliary members, the Junior Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion for helping with the program.
I would just like to add that the Veterans Day Program is very near and dear to my heart. This is just one way that I can show my appreciation to our veterans for all of the time that they have given to their country and to me and all of us so that we can have our freedom. Thank you again.
