The Cubs were defeated by Spectrum, 72-59, Tuesday, Jan. 4; then on Thursday, Kimball lost to Paynesville, 66-39.
Spectrum game – Halftime score was 45-26, Spectrum
Kimball stats: Gavin Loch, 2 points; Jamison Tubridy, 5 points; Gabe Becker, 17 points; Lucas Jansky, 5 points, 4 steals, 4 assists, 5 rebounds; Skylor Gruba, 20 points, 3 steals; Jed Spaulding, 4 points, 8 rebounds; Ty Gustafson, 6 points, 5 assists.
“We started out slow and -Spectrum took advantage of that. They hit (7) threes in the first half. We struggled to match their intensity on both ends of the floor. In the second half we came out and played with a lot more intensity. We cut their lead to six at one point, but then had some bad turnovers and they stretched the lead out at the end. We were out–rebounded and had too many turnovers tonight” explained Coach Jay Klein.
Paynesville game – Halftime score was 28-20, Paynesville
Kimball stats: Owen Mortenson, 3 points; Jamison Tubridy, 6 points; Gabe Becker, 7 points, 6 rebounds; Lucas Jansky, 10 points, 3 rebounds; Skylor Gruba, 9 points, 6 rebounds; Jed Spaulding, 4 points, 15 rebounds.
“The game was pretty sloppy to start, as both teams were trying to figure each other out. We both struggled from the free-throw line and the field in the first half. We were 3/11 from the line and they were 1/7. They hit (5) threes in the first half to help them to a 28-20 lead. The struggle continued for us in the second half. We shot poorly and turned the ball over way too much as they pulled away. Hopefully we can get back on track next week, as we are on the road for three contests,” Coach Klein commented.
