Kimball girls battle hard, fall to Wolves and Chargers

·

The Lady Cubs put up a valiant effort at home on Thursday, Dec. 11, but a final buzzer shot wouldn?Äôt fall, and Milaca would win, 52-50 and remain unbeaten. Milaca went on a 29-15 run to close the half and lead 34-22, but Kimball roared back in the second half by outscoring the Wolves 12-2 in the first six minutes. The Cubs were forced to foul with just seconds remaining, and Milaca missed the front end, giving Kimball one more chance. Getting off a final shot in the lane, the ball bounded out as the buzzer sounded, breaking the hearts of the local faithful.

?ÄúOur nemesis tonight was committing 21 turnovers compared to Milaca?Äôs 10. We were seeking revenge after a 23-point loss to the Wolves last season, and we nearly pulled off the upset this year. It shows me that we are making improvements,?Äù Coach Jeremy Kuechle said. Cubs?Äô Scoring: Emily Donnay, 2; Taylor Schreiner, 12; Hannah Serbus, 4; Madison Hurrle, 10; Madelyn O?ÄôBrien, 11; Caitlin O?ÄôBrien, 4; Rebeckah Holtz, 7.

Friday, Dec. 12, Kimball would seek vengeance on another tough 43-point loss from last season, at the hands of the Chargers of Dassel Cokato, but the Cubs would again be slightly overmatched in this contest. The Cubs would never lead as DC opened up a 38-21 lead by halftime.

?ÄúWe just didn?Äôt relax against the full court pressure enough to see up the floor and make the appropriate passes,?Äù said Coach Kuechle. The Cubs cut the Charger lead to 12 points in the
second half but DC had too many weapons in the end, and closed out a 66-43 victory. The loss drops the Cubs record to 3-2 on the season and conference play starting next week with games against Pierz and BBE. Cubs?Äô Scoring:  Taylor Schreiner, 7; Hannah Serbus, 6; Madison Hurrle, 11; Emily Utecht, 2; Madelyn O?ÄôBrien, 6; Caitlin O?ÄôBrien, 2; Rebeckah Holtz, 5; Katie Merchant, 4.
