In playoff action, the Kimball Cubs Varsity volleyball team defeated Swanville 3-0 Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, and defeated Osakis on Friday, Oct. 30. The Cubs played aggressive volleyball against Swanville, taking all three sets 25-9, 25-9, 25-6. Match highlights included Molly Hurrle’s serving 18 points in a row with seven aces to get the Cubs out to a tremendous lead. Other highlights included Steph Konz and Shannon Donnay each with seven kills, Molly Hurrle with 22 set assists, and Tesslynn Callander with eight digs.
In their second round of playoffs, the Cubs had to work much harder to clinch the win. The Cubs started out strong but made a few too many unforced errors in the first set, losing to the Silver Streaks 26-28. The Cubs came back in the second set, swinging and serving more aggressively, communicating better on the court, and thus taking the win 25-19. The third and fourth sets followed in similar suit, and the Cubs took both sets 25-17 and 25-21 respectively. Match highlights included Kelsi Woods with four aces; Rachel Lahr with 12 kills, Stephanie Konz with nine kills, and Kelly Mackereth and Shannon Donnay each with eight kills; Molly Hurrle had 42 set assists; Shannon Donnay had four blocks, and Tesslynn Callander had 12 digs. The Cubs are 21-6.
