Today, Feb. 6, Minnesota DFL Party Associate Chair Donna Cassutt called on Minnesotans across the state to host or attend Economic Recovery House Meetings this weekend. The meetings will help Minnesotans connect the recovery plan to their lives and talk about why the recovery plan is so important for local communities. More information about house parties in communities all across the country can be found at: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/economicmeetings/. The following is a statement from Cassutt: “President Obama and Democratic members of Congress have put together a plan that will jump start our economic recovery and get our economy back on track. It will get Americans back to work by boosting employment and saving or creating more than 3 million jobs, including 70,000 in Minnesota. It will invest in infrastructure projects – the repair of our roads and bridges, doubling the production of alternative energy, improving the energy efficiency of homes and buildings, modernizing 10,000 educational facilities in Minnesota, computerizing medical records, and investing in broadband. And it will provide 41,000 families in Minnesota with new assistance for college, helping make college education more affordable and accessible. “America is facing a devastating economic crisis, and the news seems worse with each passing day. That is why President Obama has asked for our help in building grassroots support in Minnesota for his economic recovery plan. He knows that the solution to our challenges lies in the communities and neighborhoods across America. “By hosting or attending an Economic Recovery House Meeting this weekend, you can talk about the issues facing your community, help Minnesotans know how the plan will benefit them and their families and let them know that help is on the way.” More information on President Obama and the Democratic Congress’ economic recovery plan can be found at www.barackobama.com. Once the plan is passed, exact details on how the money is being spent will be available at www.recovery.gov. The Obama Plan: Creating jobs and investing in Minnesota’s future. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan is a nationwide effort to create jobs, jumpstart growth and transform our economy for the 21st century. Across the country, this plan will help businesses create jobs and families afford their bills while laying a foundation for future economic growth in key areas like health care, clean energy, education and a 21st century infrastructure. In Minnesota, this plan will deliver an immediate, tangible impact. [WhiteHouse.gov, accessed 2/6/09]
