Minnesota School Board Recognition Week
Hello Kimball! We are nearing 100 days of school for 2017-18 already!
Feb. 20-24 is Minnesota School Board Recognition Week so I want to pass along some information about us.
Kimball?Äôs school board members are responsible for setting the vision and goals for the district. We work to provide a quality education for 746 K-12 students and oversee an annual budget of $8 million. The school board sets district goals, adopts policies, and evaluates progress while keeping the interests of our students first.
We have set some board goals for ourselves for 2017-2018. In no particular order:
?Ä¢ Improve the level of communication to our community.
?Ä¢ Facilities evaluation. Deter
mine the changing needs of our buildings.
?Ä¢ Financial status. Obtaining a positive 6-percent fund balance.
We said ?Äúgoodbye?Äù to Bob Stein who retired after committing many years to the school board. He is an amazing person with knowledge and insight. His smile and hard work both will be missed.
We welcomed Karla Davis to fill Bob?Äôs spot in January. She has vast experience in our community by staying actively involved.
Superintendent Wagner, Karla Davis and I spent two days in January at the Minneapolis Convention Center gathering ideas and possible solutions from other school districts that have had successful implementation of projects.
Saturday, Feb. 11, our Officers spent the day with MSBA (Minne-
sota School Board Association) learning more about their roles within the board.
We received a nice note from a parent from another district on how impressed she was with the sportsmanship displayed at a recent basketball game. She writes, ?ÄúWhen our school song, played your fans ALL stood right along with us and it was so refreshing to witness sportsmanship on that level.?Äù
Just another example we see of the good things that are happening here at Kimball.
Please consider volunteering for our Partners in Education (P.I.E.), the elementary parent organization. Volunteers are needed or P.I.E. might not exist next year. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 13 in the Kimball elementary library. Come to the meeting, or contact co-presidents Barb Waldorf (waldorf@meltel.net) or Anne Truenow (stampwithann@yahoo.com). Go Cubs!
