Ostmark Lutheran Church in rural Watkins held their 46th annual Fall Bazaar on Oct. 1.
Salisbury Bridge clean-up was conducted Oct. 1 by a group of resident volunteers. The bridge is currently inactive, and locals are considering options to restore the bridge and open it again to local traffic.
Millner Heritage Winery & Cidery held their Oktoberfest Oct. 1-2 at the vineyard south of Kimball.
KAHS inducted 21 students into the National Honor Society in a ceremony Oct. 2.
A Candidates’ Forum was held Oct. 2 at the Eden Valley Event Center, with the League of Women Voters and candidates for Eden Valley City Council.
Carlson Fluff & Puff Pillow Cleaning Service was hosted at the Kimball American Legion Club Oct. 6 by the Auxiliary.
KAHS Class of 1982 met for their 64-year reunion Oct. 6 at Triple R Grill & Bar in Kimball.

The Kimball Lions Fish Fry was Oct. 7 at the Willow Creek Park Lions Shelter.
A 50/50 raffle was held Oct. 7 during the EV-W Homecoming game against Royalton, with donations intended for the Nick Lanners family. Lanners is the Royalton football coach who was seriously injured in July in a car crash. The Royalton community was extremely grateful for this show of respect and support to the Lanners family.
St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball hosted their annual grilled pork chop dinner and silent auction Oct. 8 at the church.
KAHS hosted a Mental Health Day Oct. 10 with professional speaker Joe Beckman. Beckman spoke to elementary and high school students, separately, and to the community. This was a joint venture between the schools, Meeker County Human Services, Kimball Area Chamber of Commerce, the city of Kimball, Kimball P.I.E. (Parents in Education), Kimball Lions Club, and Schiefelbein Feeders.

EV-W Homecoming was the week of Oct. 2-7. Volleyball defeated Maple Lake, 3-0. Football won against Royalton, 28-24. Seniors won the PowderPuff game. McKenna Moehrle and Devin Dockendorf were crowned Homecoming Queen and King Oct. 2.
The Eden Valley Fire Department held an open house Oct. 8 with a bouncy house for kids, and hot dogs for everyone. Their antique fire truck was on display as well.
EV-W/K cross country girls are Central Minnesota Conference champions after the Oct. 18 meet at Royalton, placing first. The boys’ team placed fourth.
Lynn’s Diner in Watkins was voted Best Diner in Minnesota in a reader poll in the Star Tribune. Along with Gold for Best Diner, they received awards in four other categories: Silver for Salads, Silver for Tater Tots, Bronze for Family-Friendly Restaurant, and Bronze for Pancakes. Owner Nicole Potter is hoping for Gold next year for her pancakes.
Kimball Fire Department presented the Chief’s Award to Dennis Beck who headed the Kimball Firefighters Relief Association’s charitable gambling, and also ran the annual Sportsman’s Raffle. Years of Service Awards also were presented to Rob Winter (5), Rich St. Onge (10), Brian Kiffmeyer (15), Bob Erickson (20), Dennis Beck (15), Jason Peterson (5), and Sara Young (5).
William Serbus, a KAHS junior, was named winner of Beck’s Player with Heart. Each year, the Indiana-based seed company selects 10 players from five states to showcase. Serbus is the first winner to represent KAHS.
The Oct. 20 issue of the Tri-County News included six full pages of election information in advance of the Nov. 8 general election, including candidate questionnaire responses for multiple city and school board offices.
The Kimball Class of 1971 held their 51st class reunion Oct. 21 at the American Legion Club in St. Augusta.
Concordia Lutheran Church in Fair Haven held their Fall Bazaar Oct. 22 with crafts, baked goods, breakfast and lunch.
An afternoon fire Oct. 22 destroyed a storage garage at Holy Cross Church, less than a week before the parish fish fry (and all their equipment was stored in that garage). The community pulled together, and the fish fry went on as planned.
The Kimball Fine Arts Department held a fundraising concert Oct. 24 along with a meal option. Money raised was for the every-other-year band and choir trip.
Eden Valley-Watkins FFA members helped plan and conduct their annual “corn drive” service project. They raised more than $2,700 for True Friends-Camp Courage this year.
In football, both the EV-W Eagles and Kimball Cubs were undefeated going into the playoffs in late October.
Brookelyn Kuechle of Kimball and Henry Lemke of EV-W both qualified for the cross country State Tournament after competing in the Oct. 27 Section 5A Championships in Pierz.
Holy Cross Parish in Marty (Pearl Lake) held their 59th annual Fish Fry Oct. 28.
The Eden Valley Class of 1967 celebrated their 55th reunion Oct. 29 at Dino’s Eden Lakeside Club.
The Kimball Cubs undefeated football team ended their season Oct. 29 after losing the Section 5AA semifinal game to Royaton.
That same day, Eden Valley-Watkins trounced Paynesville in their semifinal game, moving on to the championship game against … you guessed it … Royalton, on Nov. 4 at St. John’s University. The Eagles won that day, earning the CMC championship. They faced Sauk Centre in the State quarterfinals game Nov. 10, playing at Monticello, and they won.
Assumption Church in Eden Valley hosted their Fall roast beef dinner Oct. 30 at the church.
