4-H youth trained as camp counselors

Twenty-four youth attended a 4-H camp counselor training at the West Central Research and Outreach Center near Morris. This nine-hour training is required for youth to serve as 4-H camp counselors.

Minnesota 4-H conducts camps all year long at various locations. Research shows that a well-planned youth camp improves self-esteem, environmental awareness, peer relationships, and has other measurable positive outcomes. The training teaches counselors to help youth experience increased levels of responsibility and develop their self-esteem through experiencing success white providing a safe, respectful, and engaging experience for campers.

Three Camp Counselors were selected from Meeker County. They are  Trinity Erickson, Jayson Hedtke, and Darrin Williamson.

The counselors will be able to use the skills they learned at the 2017 Regional 4-H Camp June 20-22, at the University of Minnesota, Morris.
