8th grade VB on target with Rockets, can’t ground Eagles

·

The Kimball Cubs 8th grade team began Homecoming week hosting the Rockford Rockets. Earlier in the season, the Cubs crushed the Rockets at Rockford. In the meantime, both teams practiced and improved their game skills. The Cubs started the match thinking the Rockets would be an easy match, but soon discovered otherwise. The Cubs dug deep and found the skills that enabled them to come from behind and win the match at three of the four games. Game scores were: 17-25; 25-20; 25-12 and 25-19. Team accomplishments for the match went as follows: serving was 42/61 for 68 percent, not quite yet the 80 percent they are working towards. The team only had five dropped balls, showing a definite improvement in this category. They set the ball eight times and earned four good hits and one kill. They also earned 19 ace serves. A good night of volleyball and they are seeing a lot of improvement in their transitions and switches. Keep up the hard work and go Cubs. On Thursday of Homecoming week, the junior-high teams traveled to their arch rivals in Eden Valley. The Cubs once again set some lofty goals with their skills and were able to accomplish two of them in the area of sets and hits. The team set the ball 19 times, with a total of 11 good hits and three kills. Other team goals were to serve 85 percent, have four or less dropped balls, and 25 ace serves. They were able to reach 64 percent in serving with only eight aces and six dropped balls. Cub game scores were: 18-25; 14-25; 15-25; 22-25. It was a tough loss as the Cubs knew they could beat the Eagles but were unable to pass and serve at critical points in the games. There are two matches left in the season, with the next one at Howard Lake and then the final match at home against Maple Lake. The team goal is to beat both opponents. Good luck Cubs.
