A going-away party for drugs and crime

The city of Kimball will participate in National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 7. National Night Out is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and (police-community partnerships); and send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized against crime. National Night Out has proven over the last 23 years to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood and police-community partnerships in the fight for a safer nation. Plus. the benefits a community will derive from National Night Out will most certainly extend well beyond the one night. The tentative plans for Kimball’s observance is that is will be held from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 7 at Willow Creek Park. Some of the events include: free rootbeer floats; hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase; free live music entertainment by Tim Diffley; Lockjaw the Clown will be putting on a program at 6 p.m.; the Kimball Police Department will be doing free identification and fingerprints of children; the Kimball Fire Department will have their rescue and fire trucks on display; balloons; pencils; coloring books for the kids; literature for the adults; and a short program at 7 p.m. There is also a coloring contest for the kids (ages 6-10). Pick up the pictures at the Tri-County News office, State Bank of Kimball and Kimball City Hall. Deadline to return the colored picture to Chris Jeppesen at Kimball City Hall is July 16. The winner will be announced the evening of National Night Out, receiving an authentic National Night Out doll. The event is sponsored by the city of Kimball, Styme Industries, Kimball Area Chamber of Commerce, Heritage House of Kimball, Kimball Wrestling Association and Kimball Friends of the Library. Everyone is the city is encouraged to attend this evening of food, fun, visiting with fellow residents and getting informed about how you can help fight drugs and crime in the town. Everyone in town is also asked to turn their porch lights on from 8-10 p.m., alerting everyone that this is a community against crime and drugs.
