“A Perfect Christmas” is one musical drama that you don’t want to miss. Performances are scheduled 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at River of Life Assembly of God, 22881 178th Ave, Cold Spring. There is no admission charge but a free-will offering will be taken and given to the family of Joe Pauly who was fatally injured in a work accident earlier this year.
In “A Perfect Christmas” Carole (Angie Neisinger) is an angel, sent by God (Mark Martin) to Central Minnesota to work undercover and help two families find the true meaning of Christmas. Carole takes the “undercover” part of her assignment from God very seriously. She appears in various disguises (Salvation Army Kettle Bell Ringer, Marge the Bug Lady, a French Chef, and a Fruitcake Delivery Girl) providing comic relief as she probes deeper into the root of the families’ respective problems. Through her efforts and shenanigans, the families begin to unpack some of the issues that have kept their lives and relationships in turmoil.
Steven (Mauricio Alva) and Sarah (Katy Gleaves) have been separated for almost a year after Steve lost his job. Guilt, pride and shame cause him to feel that there’s no going back. Sarah is furious, working so hard trying to take care of 12-year-old daughter Taylor (Audrey Parks), who is emotionally broken by their separation. Steven’s brother Bruce (Jonathan Dobowey) must do everything “by the book,” with his clipboard in hand. This drives his family crazy. His wife Michelle (Joy Bellmont), daughter Jessica (Haylen Sunde) and son Andrew (Addison Dobowey) are frazzled as their holiday celebration is driven to distraction by their perfectionist husband and father. Bruce’s mother (Diana Kuhl) who is visiting for the holidays, helps put things in perspective with stories of how Christmas was spent when Bruce was young. Will these families ever find the true source of joy? There is no “perfect Christmas” except the very first one, when God came to earth as a baby to live among us.
“A Perfect Christmas,” directed by Vicki Meyer with assistant director Nikki Donnay, was written by Jeff Atwood with music and lyrics by Ed Kee and Gary Forsythe, arranged and orchestrated by Ed Kee, through special arrangements with
