A weekend of fun!

·

This past weekend was filled with celebrations and merriment – punctuated by stormy weather in-between. First was the 75th anniversary of the A.M. Maus and Son car dealership and gas and service station on Saturday, July 19. Hundreds turned out for a perfect afternoon of food, prizes and fellowship. There are photos from the big party on page 11, along with a nice story. The weather couldn’t have been better for the Maus party. But later that afternoon at least two major storms moved through. Thunder, lightning, heavy downpours and small hail hit Kimball for about two hours. Kimball’s Fire and Rescue Department sent out spotters, and there were several tornadoes and at least one touch-down in nearby communities, but we were fortunate to not have any tornadic activity here. Weather could have dampened the Kimball Community Playhouse performance Saturday night of The Music Man. But storm clouds cleared up and all alerts were cleared well before the performance. With a cast and crew of about 80 people, The Music Man was the talk of the town. Everyone enjoyed seeing their family, friends and neighbors in a great production of this musical. Sunday saw the annual parish bazaar at St. Anne’s Church in Kimball. (See photos on page 10.) Stormy weather bypassed Kimball again for another perfect afternoon of festivity. Fr. Frank was there. Les Robinson came “home” for a visit – and is doing great. “I’ve never had it so good,” he told me of his new apartment and living situation. All in all, it was a great weekend for old friends and neighbors to get together, reminisce and “catch up.”
