When my wife and I were driving around the state of Minnesota over the weekend for a family baptism, we drove past many lakes with varying degrees of ice on them. Some had very dark ice, while others had very little ice at all.
I know there are some anglers who are still ice fishing on some lakes in parts of northern Minnesota. Please be extremely careful as conditions continue to deteriorate. Those conditions won’t be any better this week as some locations could be near 60 degrees by Thursday, and near 70 degrees in southwestern Minnesota Friday.
As we all know this time of year, all kinds of weather are possible. Rain possibly mixed with some snow at times will be possible Friday into Saturday. This will be due to a low-pressure system that could bring a mixed bag of precipitation types. At this point, no severe weather will be possible, but that too is a possibility in the early spring.
Please be careful if on the roads this weekend as you could run into a few slick spots with temperatures cool late at night and early in the morning.
Weather history: On this date in 2007, record-high temperatures were shattered across the state. Records fell in central, west central, and northern Minnesota along with the Twin Cities.
Weather facts: When you hear the term “air mass,” it deals with a large body of air with “relatively uniform” temps and moisture.
