Aloisius “Aloys” Kunkel, 91

Aloisius “Aloys” Kunkel of St. Cloud died Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at St. Cloud Hospital. He was 91.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in St. Augusta with Rev. Robert Rolfes officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may gather from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the parish center in St. Augusta.
Aloys was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Pearl Lake to Joseph and Rose (Holthaus) Kunkel. He married Mercedes “Sadie” Mohs on Aug. 21, 1951, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Al worked as a salesman for Arnold’s Equipment in St. Cloud for more than 50 years until he retired. He is a dedicated member of St. Mary Help of Christians in St. Augusta. Aloys believed in working hard and playing harder. His family was the most important aspect of his life. Aloys enjoyed spending Sundays on the lake. He loved his job selling Bobcats, and made lifelong friends through this passion. For Christmas, he gave a vacation to his family because he knew time spent with family was more important than any other gift.
Aloys was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harold, Donald, Victor, David and Daniel; and sisters Bridget Wagner and Veronica Kulus.
He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Sadie, of St. Cloud; children Dr. Stephen (and Dee) Kunkel of Tucson, Ariz., James (and Frances) Kunkel of Motley, Thomas (and Mary) Kunkel of St. Cloud, Michael (and Katie) Kunkel o fSt. Cloud, Mark (and Gwen) Kunkel of St. Cloud, Robert (and Linda) Kunkel of Pearl Lake, Debbie (and Vic) Lochen of Pearl Lake, Pam (and Mark) Theis of Luxemburg, Diane (and Chris) Zabinski of Sartell, and Julie (and Patrick) Murphy of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sisters Joan Helget, Beatrice Ackley, Hermie Albers, and Delrose Kuykendall; 27 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
