Alvina Mies, formerly of Watkins, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring. She was 83.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with Fr. Aaron Nett and Fr. Tom Andert as concelebrants. Interment will be at St. Anthony Cemetery in Watkins. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Alvina B. Brinkman was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Farming to John and Veronica (Gertken) Brinkman. She was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Mies June 7, 1958, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Farming. They lived in Watkins where Tony and Alvina owned and operated Mies Equipment until their retirement in 1997.

Alvina was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins and she was active with the Council of Catholic Women and Catholic Aid. In her younger years, Alvina was an avid golfer and seamstress. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, traveling, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with her family and friends.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; husband Anthony “Tony” Mies; father- and mother-in-law Mike and Albina (Deutsch) Mies; brothers Ralph and Kenneth Brinkman; brothers-in-law Peter Mies, Verlin Mies, Delbert Klehr, Scott McKibben, Ambrose Molitor, Rowloe Cassidy, and Bud Winters; sisters-in-law Gayle Brinkman, Lucille (Mies) Kammermeier, Evelyn (Mies) Overlin, and Norma Mies.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Vicki (and Al) Ruegemer of Cold Spring, Karen (and Tom) Stelmak of Belgrade, Mont., Steve (and Roberta) Mies of Cold Spring, Brian (and Linda) Mies of Kimball, Jeff (and Susan) Mies of Cold Spring; grandchildren Mike (and Becca) Ruegemer of Richmond, Paul (and Becca) Ruegemer of Avon, Alex Mies of Richfield, Bradley Mies of Minneapolis, Sawyer Mies of Kimball, Nicholas Mies of Minneapolis, Abby Mies, Regan Mies, Alton Mies, and Anson Mies, all of Cold Spring; great-grandchildren Ben, Collin, Nolan and Nate Ruegemer; brothers and sisters Fran Winters of Sauk Centre, Lorraine (and Don) Jungels of Cold Spring, Cora (and Lyle) Dougherty of Vancouver, Wash., Werner (and Donna) Brinkman of St. Augusta, Melvin Brinkman of Rogers, David (and Janet) Brinkman of Paynesville, Diane (and Dennis) Heying of Richmond, Judy Klehr of Richmond, Doris (and Michael) Parenteu of Maple Grove, Sandy (and Marc) Booth of St. Croix Falls, Wis.; sisters-in-law Sharon Brinkman of Cold Spring, Mary Brinkman of Richmond, Mary Ellen McKibben of Sun City, Ariz., and Delrose Mies of Albertville.

Gift bearers will be granddaughters Abby and Regan Mies. Casket bearers will be grandsons Mike and Paul Ruegemer, Alex, Nicholas, Bradley, Sawyer, Alton and Anson Mies. Arrangements were by Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
