Ambrose “Andy” Hierlmaier of Watkins died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring. He was 96. 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with Fr. Aaron Nett officiating. Visitation will be atgthe church one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.
Ambrose “Andy” Hierlmaier was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Watkins to Joseph and Wilhelmina (Ertl) Hierlmaier. Andy served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Rome-Arno, southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. His decorations included the Bronze Arrowhead and the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater service ribbons. He was united in marriage June 4, 1946, to Leona C. Bruemmer at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Forest City. He farmed in Watkins, and he was employed as a mechanic at Mies Equipment for more than 30 years.
Andy was a lifetime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. He was a member of the Wat-Kim-Valley V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards and his hobbies included tinkering and repairing small engines in his garage.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leona, daughters Mary Bloom and Janice Otte, and brothers and sisters Paul Hierlmaier, Betty Ashfeld, Lorraine Schreifels, and Joseph Hierlmaier.
He is survived by his children John (and Kathleen) Hierlmaier of Litchfield, Wayne (and Sharon) Hierlmaier of Edina, Judith Fuqua of Isanti/Cambridge, Bernard (and Paula) Hierlmaier of Isanti, and Kevin (and Judy) Hierlmaier of Hutchinson; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are with the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
