Author visits EV-W schools

Friday morning, Sept. 25, Minnesota author Nancy Carlson arrived at the EV-W schools. She spoke to groups at both the Watkins Elementary and the Eden Valley Elementary schools.

Carlson has written and illustrated 67 books so far. Some students brought their own books for her to autograph after her talk. One of her favorites is ?ÄúHarriet and the Roller Coaster,?Äù which she?Äôs reading in the photo above. Another is ?ÄúSometimes You Barf.?Äù

Ms. Carlson pointed out that almost all of her books really happened to her, at least in some way, like ?ÄúHarriet?Äôs Recital.?Äù

She also told students that often the artwork tells you more than the story does.

One of the exercises she did with students was to have them hold a hand in front of their face, like a mirror, and to wave into the ?Äúmirror?Äù saying ?ÄúHi, good lookin?Äô!?Äù This came from her book, ?ÄúI Like Me!?Äù, and helps children (and adults, too) to feel better about themselves.

Carlson?Äôs visit was sponsored by the Eden Valley Area Library.
