Kimball American Legion Unit 261 Auxiliary has selected Mary Deutsch as its representative for the 61st annual Minnesota Girls’ State. Mary is an 11th-grader at Kimball Area High School and the daughter of Steve and Donna Deutsch. The alternative representative is Samantha Stewart-James, daughter of Roger and Candy Stewart-James. If for any reason Mary could not attend Girls’ State, Samantha would go in her place. This year, Girls’ State is June 10-16 on the campus of Bethal University in Arden Hills. Minnesota Girls’ State, an American Legion Auxiliary program, is a practical application of Americanism and good citizenship. The purposes of the Minnesota Girls’ State program are to provide citizenship training for girls in their junior year of high school; to inform them about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship in order that they may understand and participate in the functioning of their government; and to help them grasp the meaning of some of the responsibilities which they must assume when they become adults. Our congratulations to Mary Deutsch and Samantha Stewart-James. Renee Berscheid, Unit 261 president
