On Monday, Jan. 8, the Kimball Cubs B-Squad basketball team traveled to Howard Lake Waverly Winsted to take on a very good Lakers squad. Kimball played very well in the first half, stopping the Lakers fast-break style and beating their full court press. By halftime, Kimball held a 32-21 lead, while the Lakers were frustrated. However, in the second half, the Lakers turned up their full court pressure, which gave the Cubs huge fits. Howard Lake stormed back as a result, and took the game over, winning by a 66-47 margin. Kimball was led in scoring by Scott Nystrom with 22 points, Eric Nystrom and Sam Scheeler both played well scoring 9 points each, Andy Dingmann had 3 points and Travis Erickson and Bobby Arens each chipped in 2 points. EVW defeats B-Squad boys On Thursday, Jan. 12, the Cubs traveled to Eden Valley to face the Eagles in conference play. By halftime, the Eagles held a slight 28-25 lead. In the second period, EVW found their comfort level in their home gym and Kimball struggled to get any shots to fall. Kimball was held to one field goal in the second half as EVW finished off a 53-31 victory. Kimball was lead by Scott Nystrom with 12 points, Eric Nystrom seven points, Andy Dingmann and Sam Scheeler each had four points, Travis Erickson and Bobby Arens each had two points.
