B-Squad Cubs defeat Johnnies

By Coach Jeremy Kuechle On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the Cubs hosted St. John’s Prep in a non-conference matchup. The young Cubs jumped out to an early lead, looking to run the floor while playing with defensive aggression. Andy Dingmann led the first-half attack, scoring nine points and taking a charge on defense. Kimball led 25-12 at the half and finished strong in the second session, winning the contest by a final score of 50-30. Dingmann led all scorers with 13 points, Sam Scheeler finished with 10 points; Eric Nystrom, nine points; Bobby Arens, eight points; Travis Erickson, seven points; Stephen Kurkosky, two points; and Pat Libbesmeier, one point. Next, Kimball faced a tough Rockford squad at home again and Kimball struggled to get anything going early in the contest. The Rockets stormed out to an early lead 36-24 by halftime, and closed out a 63-49 victory. The young Cubs outplayed and outscored the Rockets in the final 24 minutes of the game, but it was the first eight minutes where the game had been dominated by Rockford. Dingmann led all scorers again with 17 points; Scott Nystrom, eight points; Erickson, seven points; Nystrom, six points; Arens, six points; Scheeler, three points; and Libbesmeier, two points. The loss drops Kimball’s record to 5-7 on the season.
