Band students excel at solo and ensemble contest

On Monday, March 10, thirty-seven students from the Kimball Area High School Band participated in the solo and ensemble contest at Annandale High School. These students formed 17 events; 12 of which received State Superior ratings (the highest possible in High School League competition). Those students receiving State Superior ratings were Travis Winkelman, french horn solo; Jodine Lemke, oboe solo; Ryan Winkelman, bass clarinet solo; Jenna Stenger, flute solo; Jill Libbesmeier, trumpet solo; Erin Heath, trumpet solo; Jenna Stenger, Brianna Libbesmeier, Rachel Stein and Cathy Thompson, flute quartet; Jenna Stenger, Erin Hunt and Andrea Miller, woodwind trio; Cole Loewen, Angie Garding, Jackie Messer, Carl Stein, Josh Orn, Erich Deutsch, Nick Stein and Dan Stein, jazz combo; Jenna Stenger and Cathy Thompson, flute duet; Tammy Kuechle, Carla Henneman, Melanie Marquardt and Alison Ecker, clarinet quartet; Alanna Bowman, Angie Garding, Jordan Miller, Jesi Mancini and Cole Loewen, percussion ensemble. Students receiving State Excellent ratings were Jenna Stenger, Brianna Libbesmeier, Rachel Stein, Jodine Lemke, Vanessa Gillman, Tammy Kuechle, Carla Henneman, Melanie Marquardt, Alison Ecker, Tabitha Maus, Carl Stein, Andrea Miller, Josh Orn, Erich Deutsch, Ryan Winkel-man, Lynn Powell, Angie Garding and Alanna Bowman, woodwind choir; Erin Heath, Nick Stein, Jill Libbesmeier, Jon Miller, Craig Henneman, Chris Rose, Sarah Gohman, Kyle Wurm, Travis Winkelman, Samantha Bowman, Dan Stein, Al Holker, Mitch Nystrom and Brandon Stein, brass choir.   Students receiving Subsection Superior ratings were Carl Stein, Andrea Miller, Josh Orn and Erich Deutsch, sax quartet; Brianna Libbesmeier and Rachel Stein, flute duet. These students all deserve congratulations for their fine performance and the dedication and hard work that lead up to this competition. As a side note, please note the names above again. You will find not only a group of fine musicians, but also some of our finest athletes, National Honor Society members, members of FFA, FCCLA, Knowledge Bowl, Yearbook, Arts Club and many other school organizations. In the Kimball public schools, students really can do it all, and, with dedication, can be very successful in all of their pursuits.
