Bank robbers fail at Kingston

·
Reprinted from a very old, unidentified local newspaper
An attempt to rob the Kingston State Bank at Kingston, Meeker County, was made today shortly after noon by three highway men.
The bandits came into the bank and began to converse with the cashier J.E. Matson. The latter who was alone in the bank became suspicious of the men at sight and, when he saw one of the men reach for his gun, he had his own ready. He ducked back of the counter, fired at the same time, and set off the burglar alarm with which the bank was equipped. The men left double-quick, getting into an automobile and making their escape. As we go to press nothing has been heard of their capture or where-abouts.
Late this afternoon report came to Willmar that three suspects in a Buick car had been seen at Grove City speeding westward. Chief of Police Bergeson and posse in one car, and Deputy Sheriff Ernest Olson in another, started out to see if they might accidentally intercept the highway men in their get-a-way.
