Last weekend we saw showers and thunderstorms push across parts of the region. Southern Minnesota even had a slight risk of severe weather due to the warm temperatures, elevated dew points, and a cold front pushing through that moist environment. It is that time of the year for severe weather possibilities.
It was good to see some rain over the weekend as we have been dealing with wildfire concerns in Minnesota. Some parts of southern Minnesota saw more than an inch of rain.
We saw some spotty rain around the region Monday as well. Temperatures were above average as they climbed into the mid- to upper-60s and the 70s.
Lingering rain chances will stay with us through the start of the upcoming week. The best chances for rain and thunderstorms will be with us for Thursday, Friday, and into Saturday. The low- to mid-70s will be likely along the way which is 5 to 10 degrees above normal.
Keep the umbrella handy off and on through Saturday.
Weather history: On this date in 1934, records show that the region was dealing with “blackout conditions” due to dry conditions during the Dust Bowl era. Dust drifts caused “hazardous travel” conditions across much of Greater Minnesota.
