Beef Team offering three online courses, starting Jan. 11

The University of Minnesota Beef Team is offering three online Home Study Courses this winter, titled ?ÄúIntroduction to Cow/Calf Nutrition,?Äù ?ÄúHealth Management for the Cow/Calf Herd?Äù and ?ÄúIntroduction to Cattle Feeding.?Äù Courses focus on practical applications of topics.

Introduction to Cow/Calf Nutrition topics include principles of nutrition, feeds and feeding, grazing management, wintering cows, feeding for breeding, and pre-weaning nutrition. Topics for the Health Management for the Cow/Calf Herd course are common diseases of the cow herd, managing health pre-calving, managing the health of newborn calves, breeding management, and parasite control. The Introduction to Cattle Feeding topics are principles of nutrition, feeds and feeding, cattle health and management, feedlot facilities, manure management, and finances and risk management.

Each lesson will include online activities designed to encourage participants to become familiar with electronic resources and an online forum gives participants the opportunity to connect with other producers. Internet access and Microsoft Office software are required. Following course completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion and the opportunity to highlight their continuing education through a LinkedIn Certificate Badge. The first lessons will be available
Jan. 11, 2017, and the following lessons will be posted every two weeks. The fee for course registration is $75, and can be accessed through www.extension.umn.edu/beef.  Registration is open through Jan. 17.
