Board of Education, August 23, 2018 – Ind. School District 739, Kimball, MN
The meeting was called to order by chair Schreiner at 7:04 p.m. with all board members present. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.
Motion by Davis, seconded by Waldorf to approve the agenda as amended. Superintendent Wagner added discussion regarding class sizes for Kindergarten and first grade. Motion Carried.
Post-Retirement Savings language contained in the administrative contracts slated for approval was discussed in detail. Motion by Meyer, seconded by Waldorf to close the board meeting at 7:31 for further discussion. MC
Motion by Davis, seconded by Waldorf to begin the closed session at 7:32. MC
Motion by Becker, seconded by Meyer to end the closed session at 7:57. MC
Motion by Davis, seconded by Waldorf to re-open the special meeting at 7:57. MC
Motion by Davis, seconded by Becker to approve the contract with Erik Widvey, Secondary Principal, striking the added language regarding post-retirement savings. MC
Motion by Becker, seconded by Zipoy to approve the contract with Keri Johnson, Elementary Principal, striking the added language regarding post-retirement savings. MC
Motion by Davis, seconded by Becker to approve the contract with Joan Nystrom, Business Manager, striking the added language regarding post-retirement savings. MC
Motion by Becker, seconded by Waldorf to accept the request from Mr. Widvey for a 10-month leave of absence from the secondary principal position. MC
Motion by Davis, seconded by Zipoy to approve an Interim Superintendent contract with Erik Widvey effective September 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. MC
Motion by Davis, seconded by Meyer to approve an Interim Principal contract with Nancy Bonnifield effective September 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. MC
Motion by Becker, seconded by Davis to approve Erik Widvey, Interim Superintendent, as Identified Official With Authority, effective September 1, 2018. MC
Motion by Davis, seconded by Waldorf to accept resignation received from Eric Primus, high school special education teacher effective immediately, thanking him for his years of service to the district. MC
Motion by Meyer, seconded by Zipoy to approve hiring Jody Pope, ECSE/Enrichment Paraprofessional at Category II, Step 2 of the Non-Licensed Agreement. MC
Mr. Wagner informed the board of the current class sizes for Kindergarten and first grade after having several families register students this week. Kindergarten is up to 46 in two sections, and First grade is at 45 in two sections. Given the make-up of the students, it would be in the best interest of the kids to divide them into three sections. There are a number of different configurations that could be implemented. Motion by Waldorf, seconded by Davis to allow administration to determine the need to reduce the class sizes, and the best configuration once the school year is in session. MC
Motion by Davis, seconded by Waldorf to adjourn at 8:20 p.m.
