Bob Nankivell, 84

Editor’s Note: This obituary comes to us from Ted Erickson of Bloomington, KHS class of 1944.

I received word from Phoenix, Ariz., that Bob Nankivell died on June 19, 2002, at age 84. Bob was a teacher and coach at Kimball High School for two years, from Sept. 1942 until June 1944. His basketball team of 42-43 won the sub-district tournament. He taught history and social studies, and he was a very popular teacher. I’m sure that a number of your subscribers will remember him. When we saw him last summer, he told us that the years at Kimball were some of the happiest of his life.

My wife (Alpha Anderson) and I were very close to the Nankivells. He was a mentor to me throughout my educational years, and he was best man at our wedding in 1951.

Bob became a very successful businessman after coaching, teaching and doing YMCA work. He retired from Curtis 1000 as a Regional Vice President based in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. After his retirement, he moved with his wife to Sun City, Ariz.

He married Caroline Miller in 1949. They had four children, several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
