Jan. 16, 2007 Kimball 40 – Holdingford 59 Last Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Cubs met up with the Huskers from Holdingford in a Central Minnesota Conference showdown. Holdingford jumped out to an early lead with the strength of their inside game. At the break they were leading 24-15. The margin grew to 18 in the second half before a Kimball run that cut the lead to 10. Unfortunately, that was all the closer the Cubs would get as the final margin ended up Holdingford 59 Kimball 40. The Cubs were led in scoring and rebounding by Adam Magnuson’s 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jeff Hunt led the team with four steals and Karl Hunt contributed four assists. Jan. 19, 2007 Kimball 66 – Maple Lake 72 (OT) On Friday night, Kimball traveled to Maple Lake to take on the Irish. Kimball jumped out to an early lead with good perimeter shooting. The Cubs led 18-12 when Maple Lake went on a run that saw the Irish take a 30-25 lead into intermission. In the second half, the Irish saw their lead get to as many as 10 points. The Cubs, however, would not quit, and battled back to take the lead late in the game. The game went back and forth until the end. With the score tied at 58 and 10 seconds remaining, Kimball had possession of the ball. A shot at the buzzer came up short, and the game headed to overtime. The four-minute period was tightly contested. Just 23 ticks remained on the clock, with Kimball clinging to a 1-point lead. A turnover and technical foul led to four free-throws for the Irish and allowed them to defeat the Cubs 72-66. The Cubs were led in scoring by Adam Magnuson and Logan Looman, who had 17 points each. Jeff Hunt and Scott Nystrom chipped in with 11 and nine points, respectively. Jeff Hunt and Karl Hunt dished out five and four assists. Logan Looman added four steals and Adam Magnuson hauled down 10 rebounds.
