Tuesday, Jan. 8, the boys C-Squad hosted Milaca. The boys played a great all-around first half. They played great defense and forced multiple turnovers that turned into fast-break points for a 17-4 halftime lead. However, in the second half, the Wolves came out with intensity and pressure that forced us out of our game. We turned the ball over and struggled to get good shots against their pressure. In the end we made enough plays and had enough stops to hold onto the lead including taking very good care of the ball the last three minutes of the game when the Wolves pressure was at its highest. The final score had the Cubs winning 23-16.
Scoring for the Cubs was Skylor Gruba 9, Gabe Becker 6, Jake Spaulding 4, Lucas Jansky 2, and Gavin Loch 2.
Thursday, Jan. 10, Cubs hit the road for a game with Paynesville. The Cubs and Bulldogs played a high-scoring exciting game. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 38-33 halftime lead behind 8 made three pointers. The boys had trouble locating their shooters on the three-point line in the first half. However, we did a much better job in the second half, only allowing two made three-point shots. It was a back and forth game throughout with neither team able to gain the advantage. The game came down to the last possession. The Bulldogs missed a free throw which the Cubs rebounded to be down 2 with 12 seconds remaining. After a timeout, the boys executed the play perfectly and had an open look from three to win the game. However, it was just off as the buzzer sounded. The final score was 54-52. It was the best all-around game we played this year as we keep improving every game. Leading the way in the scoring column was Lucas Jansky with 17, followed by Skylor Gruba 15, Ty Gustafson 7, Jamison Tubridy 5, Jake Spaulding 4, and Gabe Becker 1.
This week the Cubs have a busy week with 3 games. Tuesday, Jan. 15, we travel to Holdingford, Thursday, Jan. 17, host Pact Charter, and Friday, Jan. 18, host Howard Lake. The boy’s overall record now stands at 4-6 for the year.
