The eighth grade football team had an excellent year. The team has some size and speed, and is probably one of the best teams I have coached in my six years at Kimball. Some of this team’s best players have growing to do (lack of height), but as they grow and get stronger, they should be a solid football team. We finished the year with a 4-2-1 record. The year began with a 16-6 win over Holdingford in the Holdingford Tournament. We were supposed to have played BBE, but they were unable to make the trip. The second game of the year was a disappointing home loss to Maple Lake. We felt we were the better team, but in the end we couldn’t make enough defensive plays to win. The third game was a 16-14 win over EV-W. It was a tough game, but we squeaked out one more two-point conversion and claimed victory. The very next game was an 8-0 road loss to Howard Lake. Numerous mistakes on offense deflated the Cubs and we never recovered. From then on, we won or tied our games, looking strong on offense and improving on defense. We closed the season with a 14-0 win over Howard Lake to avenge our worst loss. The team worked hard and definitely improved as the season wore on. The team and I would like to thank all the parents and others who attended our games. Your support was greatly appreciated. With continued work in class, work on the field and support from family and fans, the future looks bright for this group of football players.
