The Kimball Express rebounded nicely in their second Central Valley League game of the year behind the pitching and hitting of Jim Brubaker by drubbing the Luxemburg Brewers 16-1 this past Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field in Kimball. Jim Brubaker picked up the pitching win going five strong innings striking out five and he helped his own cause going 3-5 at the plate belting an RBI triple in the first inning and adding a double in the second. He finished the day 3-5 with three RBI. A week after losing in the CVL opener to the Watkins Clippers, Kimball jumped out early against the Brewers behind the big bat of Brian Marquardt as he smashed a three run homerun making it 10-0 before Jim Brubaker scorched a two run single to make it 12-0 after two innings. Brian also added an RBI double in the third inning. The Express added lone runs in the third and fourth innings before capping off the scoring in the seventh with two more runs. To start the sixth inning, newcomer Brett Thompson took over on the mound for Brubaker. Thompson, in his second outing of the year held the Brewers in check facing only 10 batters in three innings of relief before giving way to Adam Beyer in the ninth. Beyer had a three up, three down inning to end the game. Brian and Brooks Marquardt finished the day with two hits a piece to lead the offensive efforts for the Express. Ramsey Simons, Adam Beyer and Scott Marquardt added two hits a piece to aid in the win. Kimball had 14 hits on the day. Rail Report The win gives the Express a 2-1 record overall and 1-1 record in the Central Valley League. A busy week for the Express coming up as they will be in Watkins for CVL action on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m., taking on the St. Augusta Gussies under the lights. Saturday afternoon the Express host the St. Cloud Orthopedic Ice at 2 p.m. and on Sunday they host the St. Nicholas Nicks with the first pitch slated for 4 p.m..
