Bushmills Ethanol, now beginning their third week of equity meetings, seems to be attracting producers from over 20 counties in Minnesota. Project organizers have categorized interest in this project as extraordinary. They have handed out more than 500 packets to potential investors and have received commitments totaling over $5 million. In the informational meetings they present complete information about their project and go into the corn delivery system to be used and how producers can participate. Not only are these sessions attracting local producers, but non-producers are coming in great numbers. Andy Quinn, Bushmills Ethanol Board President, explains his board has tried to address corn delivery to make it fair and equitable for all members. “The corn pool is an option available for members who either do not want to deliver the corn or are too far away to be reasonable,” Quinn said. Quinn said they get a lot of questions about the corn delivery, but producers seem to like the flexibility their plan allows. Organizers say they have narrowed a location to either Kandiyohi or Meeker County but still have site details to resolve. The proposed plant would scarcely tap the abundant supply of corn produced in the region, as it would use nearly 15 million bushels of the approximate 190 million-plus bushels produced in the area. When corn prices are low they expect to make more selling the ethanol, and when corn prices are high they will enjoy selling the corn more. The initial offering will close on April 15.
