The Cubs started off a busy week by hosting Maple Lake. It would not turn out to be a good day for the Cubs as they would lose big to a good hitting Maple Lake squad. The Lakers pounded out 18 hits on their way to an 18-3 victory. Austin Ruehle was the only Cub with multiple hits going 2-4 with a triple. Preston Peglow drove in two runs on a double in the third and Jordan Joseph had the other RBI.
The second game of the week the Cubs played Osakis. Because of the weather, the game was played in Kimball, but Osakis was the home team. In the third inning, the Cubs batted through their lineup without making an out, and the first seven base runners came in to score. That would be enough for the Cubs to hold on to a 9-4 victory. Quentin Bryce, Peglow, and Tim Konz all had two hits. Ruehle went 3-5 and Tritton Tschida drove in two runs. Starting pitcher Aaron Laabs went five innings, giving up three runs to pick up the win.
Thursday, the Cubs traveled to Holdingford for a doubleheader. The first game the Cubs were able to pull off a 9-5 victory. Starting pitcher Mathias Hennen went all seven innings, giving up three earned runs. At the plate, Joseph, Konz, and Tschida all picked up two hits. Konz drove in three runs, and Laabs added two RBI of his own. Bryce also reached base all four plate appearances, going 1-1 with three walks and scored three runs.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cubs picked up another win, outscoring Holdingford 5-2. Starting pitcher Cameron Hunt added another good outing, going all seven innings. He had a no-hitter through three innings, and finished allowing only four hits, and gave up two unearned runs. Offensively Konz and Joseph collected two hits apiece. Ruehle was 3-3 and Tschida and Bryce both had two RBI.
In the fifth and final game of the week, the Cubs hosted St. John’s Prep. Starting pitcher Joseph gave the Cubs their third straight complete game, going all seven striking out seven and allowing only two earned runs. At the plate, Hennen led the way, going 3-4 with a double, and drove in three runs. Ruehle was the only other Cub with multiple hits, going 2-3 with a triple, and Peglow and Konz each picked up an RBI. The Cubs picked up the fourth win in a row, defeating the Johnnies 5-2. The win increased the Cubs record
to 8-6.
The Cubs will be wrapping up their regular season this week by hosting Howard Lake Monday, May 14, and hosting a doubleheader versus Eden Valley-
Watkins Thursday, May 17.
