Tuesday, Jan. 24, the C-squad traveled to Swanville and picked up their first win of the year. We came out sluggish in the first half and found ourselves down 13-16 at halftime. Chase Gustafson kept us in the game by scoring 11 points in the first half. In the second half, the Cubs picked up the defense and played with more energy. However, we were still down 21-26 with 4 minutes left. After a timeout, we finished the game on a 7-1 run which was fueled by excellent defense. With 5 seconds left we had an out of bounds play under our basket. We executed our play perfectly, but the shot did not fall. However, Brian Binsfeld rebounded the missed shot attempt and scored it at the buzzer to give us a 28-27 win. I was very proud of the energy that the boys finished the game with. It was an exciting game, and it was good to see our hard work pay off. For the Cubs, Chase Gustafson led with 11 points followed by Brian Binsfeld and Noah Young with 8 and 7 respectively.
Thursday, Jan. 26, the boys traveled to Howard Lake to take on the Lakers. The game was very fast and high tempo just like the first game we played with them. They are a very talented and athletic team that wanted to run and gun. They also played good defense which made it tough to run our offense. We were unable to keep up with the pace and found ourselves down 46-11 at halftime. In the second half we switched to a 2-3 zone defense which slowed them down for a little bit. The final score ended up being 61 to 22. The Cubs, were led by Brian Binsfeld with 8 points and Noah Young with 6. Everett Fischer also added a deep three pointer in the first half.
