Can we put away the snow shovel?

Weather: Despite the fact that the calendar said May 1 on Monday, ?ÄúOld Man Winter?Äù still wanted to make one last appearance for the year.

A winter weather advisory was posted from southwestern Minnesota all the way up to northeastern Minnesota. Snow was common throughout central and west central Minnesota where
1 to 3 inches of snow fell.

Parts of South Dakota were dealing with a winter storm warning for heavy snowfall on Monday.

Out ahead of this system, much of Minnesota was enjoying temperatures in the 50s and 60s on Sunday. This just goes to show us how volatile the weather can be this time of the year.

The good news is that once this system is behind us, much warmer weather will return. We should see temperatures back to what we expect this time of the year, as high temperatures will climb back into the 60s.

There is a system that could bring some showers and thunderstorms for the midweek. Once that passes, high pressure is expected to keep things in check for the rest of the week into the weekend!

I think it should be safe now to put away that shovel for the season-finally.

Have a great rest of the week!

Weather history: On this date in 1905, NWS records show that a ?Äúmixed bag of weather occurred in Minnesota.?Äù There were reports that western Minnesota was pelted by hail, while snow fell over the Arrowhead!

Weather fact: Hail can be defined as ?Äúshowery precipitation in the form of irregular pellets or balls of ice more than 5 mm in diameter, falling from a cumulonimbus cloud.?Äù
