Chain of Lakes Soccer news

Friday night, Oct. 5, the Paynesville Bulldogs and the Eden Valley/Watkins Eagles battled on the football gridiron in Paynesville’s Homecoming. Earlier in the afternoon the two schools, along with Kimball, joined forces on the soccer field to take on Cambridge Christian School at Ampe Park in Paynesville. The Chain of Lakes Roosters got the early lead on a goal from Jacob Beck (Kimball) six minutes into the game. Ten minutes later Cambridge equaled the score and it looked like it would be a tight game to the end. But looks can be deceiving as very soon the Roosters took over the game. At the 21 minute mark Julian Chavez (Paynesville) put COL’s ahead and then Wyatt Schmidt (EV/W) followed two minutes later to make the score 3-1. Not being satisfied with one goal, Schmidt scored again with five minutes to go in the half and the Roosters went into half time with a 4-1 lead.

Shortly after the second half started Cambridge scored their second goal, the Rooster defense hung strong. In the last minute of the game George Matua (Kimball) scored one final goal and the Roosters celebrated a 5-2 victory. Seventh grader Noah Voss (Paynesville) went the distance in his first high school action. The final was Kimball 2, EV/W 2, Paynesville 1 and Cambridge 2. These players don’t play for their individual schools, therefore five goals for one team, the Chain of Lakes Roosters. This coming week the Roosters travel to Cambridge Thursday, Oct. 11, to complete the home and home.
