What’s happening at the Eden Valley Area Library?

June has finally arrived, and the snow is gone! With all those seeds and plants provided through the Seed Library and Plant Shuffle, area gardeners can get off to a quick start. We are happy to report that there are a lot of other activities this month.

Education Nation, The Wonders of Minnesota kicks off on Wednesday, June 14, with a visit from representatives of the Dairy Princess program. The children enjoyed meeting them last summer, and we are fortunate to have them return. They will have lots of information about farms and all the wonderful things they provide. On Wednesday, June 28, it’s all about bees. Beekeeper Ellen Stenger from NexGen Dairy will introduce children to bees, their fascinating behavior, and why they are so important. The children will also learn what they can do to help these extraordinary little creatures. Education Nation sessions are from 10-11:30 a.m. and take place in the Community Center unless otherwise noted. Everyone is welcome.

As part of our focus on -children enjoying the outdoors, we are offering Science Packs that are available for checkout. Each pack is loaded with materials to help your family explore any of the following subjects: Trees, Leaves and Needles, Birds, Rocks & Minerals, Frogs & Turtles, and Butterflies & Moths. They can be checked out for three weeks, and will provide hours of fun exploration.

We loved having a visit from EV-W Elementary School first-graders. The children made sunflower crafts, enjoyed sunflower stories, and had a tour of the library. Each child also received a packet of seeds for planting sunflowers, and a library card application. We look forward to many new patrons visiting this summer. What a joy to see so many children in the library.

Eden Valley Library Book Club has concluded for the season. Look forward to their return on the third Tuesday of the month starting in September.

The Eden Valley Area Library Book Sale will be part of Valley Daze again this year, and the assortment includes many newer, hard-cover books. Come and find some of your favorites, and all we ask for is a free-will donation. The sale will be available from 1-5 p.m. Friday, June 23, and  8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 24. For another fun event during Valley Daze, stop into the Community Center for the Bake Sale/coffee and treats. Have a single treat or buy some to take home. Our community of bakers will offer such delights as biscotti and scones to name a few.

Our summer hours are from 2-5 p.m. Mondays through -Fridays. Questions? Contact the library by phone at (320) 453-4434, or message us on Facebook.
