What’s happening at the Eden Valley Area Library?
There are numerous holidays to celebrate this month. With the death of Jimmy Carter and the recent inauguration, let’s focus on Presidents Day celebrated on Feb. 17. We expect a lot from our presidents. The words of George W. Bush say it best, “For we are given power not to advance our own purposes, nor to make a great show in the world, nor a name. There is but one just use of power, and it is to serve people.”
The Eden Valley Area Library and the City of Eden Valley are continuing with WalkFit in the Community Center. For a chance to walk in a warm and comfortable environment, enter the library on your way to the Community -Center from 2-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It will be unavailable if Community Center is booked for other purposes. Those days/dates include the second Wednesday of each month and Feb. 12. Sorry, no pets are allowed.
Jigsaw Puzzle Exchange continues. Bring one puzzle in, and exchange it for another. Try to make sure the puzzle you are donating has all the pieces. Working a jigsaw puzzle is a great way to spend a cold or snowy evening.
The Eden Valley Area Library Book Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 in the library. The book up for discussion is “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown. It’s an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times – the “improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.”
Winter Book Bingo is available to students in grades K-6. A Bingo card may be picked up at the library, or contact the library to have it sent to you to print off at home. When you fill a Bingo card, collect a prize at the library. You will then enter the grand prize drawing for LEGO robotic kit. The program runs until Feb. 28.
Get Your Mitts on a Good Book is available to adults and grades 7-12. Pick up a goal sheet at the library, or contact the library to have it sent to you to print off at home. You will set your goal of how many books you will read by Feb. 28, (minimum of three books). When you reach your goal, collect a prize at the library. You will then enter the grand prize drawing of a $50 gift certificate to Lost & Found.
If you have questions about any of our programs, contact the library by phone at (320) 453-4434, email evlibrary@arvig.net, or message us on Facebook. Our library hours are 2-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
