What’s happening at the Eden Valley Area Library?
It is always a challenge to find something interesting about the current month. However, April brings some surprises. “The name April likely comes from the Latin word “aperire” meaning “to open,” as it’s a month when nature seems to open up with blooming flowers and warmer weather.” So, start planning your gardens. Don’t forget: Earth Day is April 22.
If you read The Tri-County News, you might have seen the Seed Library mentioned. It’s been going strong since 2015. That’s a dedicated group of gardeners. The Eden Valley Area Library will be giving out seeds again this spring, starting April 1. The seeds are free, and most are new. There will not be any requirements to get them, although we will have a donation container to help offset some of the purchasing expenses.
At the end of the growing season, gardeners can save heirloom seeds from their plants and return a portion of the seeds to the library. This will not work with hybrid seeds. Stop in and pick up your garden seed, and start planning your vegetable and flower gardens, because spring is here.
To add to the fun, it is National Poetry Month. Check out a book of poems by Shel Silverstein. The kids love him! Another favorite are the poems by Billy Collins. They are in turns playful and ironic.
The Eden Valley Area Library Book Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the library. The book up for discussion is “Fox Wife” by Yangsze Choo. As described on Amazon, “New York Times bestselling author Yangsze Choo brilliantly explores a world of mortals and spirits, humans and beasts, and their dazzling intersection. Please remember that the book club is finishing up the season this April and May.
Jigsaw Puzzle Exchange will continue through the summer. So, hone those puzzling skills because it’s fun and good for brain health. Please remember to only donate puzzles that have all the pieces.
If you have questions about any of our programs, contact the library by phone at (320) 453-4434, email evlibrary@arvig.net, or message us on Facebook.
