Check recent fires for lingering heat

·

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds people to check any recently extinguished fires for lingering heat, including campfires, burn piles, and ash removed from wood stoves or heaters.

Fire danger is increasing, and embers can stay warm for a long time. In the right conditions, they can rekindle and start a wildfire.

If people find heat they should: drown with water, stir, and repeat until the ashes are cold to help prevent wildfires.
