Chester Martin of Osakis, formerly of Alexandria, died on Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis. He was 80 years old. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Petermeier’s Alexandria Funeral Care Chapel with Chaplain Phyllis Schoonhoven officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Kimball Cemetery. Chester Eugene Martin was born on Feb. 22, 1923, in Cathay, N.D., to John and Laura (Siebold) Martin. The Martin family lived in Cathay all of his childhood, and he attended school in Cathay through the eighth grade. Chester served his country during World War II in the United States Army. Chester married Fay E. Davis on March 14, 1944, in Carrington, N.D. During their married life the Martins lived in several areas as Chester worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 38 years. Chester worked as a section foreman in Kimball from 1953 to 1962. He and his family lived in Kimball from 1954 to 1962. He also worked at the lumberyard and the elevator in Kimball, and was a member of the Kimball American Legion. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Chester was preceded in death by his parents; a baby daughter; three brothers: Wesley, Leonard and infant Gilbert; and two sisters: Shirley and Janice. He is survived by his wife Fay; children: Charlene (and Wayne) Klein of Alexandria; Dennis (and Barb) Martin of Shakopee; Greg Martin of Grand Forks, N.D.; Phyllis Martin (and husband Richard Melgaard) of Arlington, Texas; Paula (and Darrell) Norby of Alexandria; eight grandchildren: Lori (and Glenn) Roers of Brandon; Jeffery (and Lynn) Klein of Alexandria; Kelly Martin of Shakopee; Steven (and Roxanne) Martin of Farmington; Lee Molstre of Mora; Jaime Molstre of Fargo, N.D.; Matthew Norby of Duluth; Melissa Norby of Alexandria; 12 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Jimmy (and Rosie) Martin of Jamestown, N.D.; Orville (and Delores) Martin of Cantonment, Fla.; Bill (and Sharon) Martin of Fargo, N.D.; Fred (and Alma) Martin of Lisbon, N.D.; Merlin (and Barb) Martin of Heaton, N.D.; three sisters: Ardell Ockert of New Rockford, N.D.; Helen (and Steve) Wolf of Bismarck, N.D.; Lind (and Lawrence) Anderson of New Rockford, N.D.; and Bev (and Terry) Hafner of Sykeston, N.D.
