March 23 is not an ordinary day. The chickens are coming! Well, sort of … Chicken Soup for the Sole Purpose of Promoting the Visual Arts will once again be celebrated in Kimball. The art event will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23 at Kimball Area High School. The art celebration showcases the artistic talents of the students and exemplifies the variety of art mediums found in the curriculum. The Chicken Soup project is held every other year and alternates between school building sites. A soup supper will be available from 5-7 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. The cost is $5 for adults and $3.50 for children under 10. Chicken wild rice and chicken noodle soup will be featured. A beverage, crackers, vegetable sticks, cheese and a cookie will accompany the soup. Proceeds from the soup supper will fund future Chicken Soup events. K-12 artwork will be displayed throughout the building. Alumni artists will also have work on display. There will be a pottery demonstration by area artist Ken Ferber. The artwork of the Minnesota State High School League Arts Competition will be on display. Senior high art students will offer free face-painting for those individuals who would like to be a “human work-of-art”. Maps will be available to provide information about locations of displays. Art instructor Mike Linn received a Minnesota Excellence in Teaching and Learning grant to implement the project for the first time during the 1999-2000 school year. Help continue the tradition that celebrates visual arts talent. Come for supper and enjoy the artwork of students – past and present. Mark the date on your calendars and join in the fun.
